Derrinstown Stud-based sire Markaz (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) became Europe's 22nd freshman to strike when the Charlie Hills-trained Snash (Ire) registered a taking victory going a shade over six furlongs in Sunday's Codsall EBF Maiden S. at Wolverhampton.
2nd-Wolverhampton, £6,400, Mdn, 6-21, 2yo, 6f 20y (AWT), 1:15.18, st.
SNASH (IRE) (c, 2, Markaz {Ire}–Wardat Dubai {GB}, by Mawatheeq), a June 4 debut sixth over this trip at Newmarket last time, was well away to race in the vanguard from the outset here. Easing to the front rounding the home turn, the 11-4 joint-favourite poached a decisive advantage at the top of the straight and kept on strongly under mild coaxing in the closing stages to comfortably hold Bodak Yellow (Ire) (Kodi Bear {Ire}) by 1 1/4 lengths, becoming the first winner for his Derrinstown Stud-based freshman sire (by Dark Angel {Ire}). Half to a yearling colt by Slade Power (Ire), he is the second of three foals and becomes the first scorer for dual winner Wardat Dubai (GB) (Mawatheeq). From the family of MG1SP sire Averti (Ire) (Warning {GB}) and G3 Queen Mary S. winner Nadwah (Shadeed), Wardat Dubai is out of an unraced half-sister to G3 Princess Elizabeth S. and G3 Select S. victress Lady Gloria (GB) (Diktat {GB}) and Listed Snowdrop S. third Light and Shade (GB) (Aqlaam {GB}).
